Akio Toyota the Chairman CEO of Toyota Motors, one of the largest car manufacturers in the world opposes the Japanese govt plan to slash carbon emissions by transistioing to EV vehicles He also heads the Japanese Automobile Manufacturer's Assocition.
He says that it is a big mistake since that means loss of exports of 8 million vehicles and loss of 5.5 million jobs. He sees their current investments in fuel cells and/or hybrid vehicles and that the world is not ready for EV. (The author likeness to the late response of Blackberry to Android)
Aside from Tesla, a number of American car manufacturers have shifted to EVs, so with VW and other German car manufacturers. Scores of Chinese car manufacturers are into EVs
The author sees the greater risk as heating the earth too much that would kill the citizens.
