NU 12 by Martin Revilla - Basketball Innovation

Hoops there it is! For the love of Basketball
We cannot deny the fact that the most dominant and played sports here in the Philippines is Basketball, from all corners of the country we can see basketball courts even if it is half court or a whole court.
I can still remember during my childhood days that before we can play the game we have difficult time schedule in the afternoon because we need to anticipate the seniors playing time around 4-5pm, this gave us grueling pleasure of playing under the sun from 1pm up to 3:30pm just for the love of playing.
In the streets of Malate Manila playing basketball is very competitive, during the early 90's it's very addicting that we need to join leagues with other barangays just to compete and show that our barangay performs or plays better, produce better players as compared to them, this led to series of rumble and physical activities that are unnecessary.
But one thing I noticed before and until now is the fact that referees control the game; they have the whistle that acts like the judge dictating the tempo and flow of the game. It is controversial that sometimes certain game play calls are wrong with obvious reason and evidence, I am glad that the innovation for rule updates are better and at the same time video camera's are added for additional angles for professional basketball games that can help them review further and analyze if they really had the right call.
What if someday basketball officials produce programed robots to officiate the game? This will make the game better and the same time lessens or negates player complaints during the game, I am also thinking of innovating game jerseys from retro (heavy and big numbered jerseys) to light jerseys (produced by Adidas) to jerseys with pain sensor that will blink or give signal to the officials or the programmed android robot that foul is committed. This will be easily distinguished by comparing the player's pain gauge – these ideas are somewhat out of this world but may happen we don't know.
Right now, the best way of developing the game is teaching our basketball officials specifically referees the proper way of handling wrong calls, a solid background check of the referees profile – this will led to fair calls especially during big games like world championships, we don't know they might bet for their team to win. And lastly, we need to strengthen basketball to give opportunities for a healthy community and shying away from doing illegal and bad things like using illegal drugs and gambling.  4  (Congratulations for coming out with great NU 12 this time)

NU 12 School of Ethics by Ramon Martin Revilla

New Business Ideas
Living in the Philippines through out my lifetime dictates that Filipino's needed strong disciplinary ethics and values.  On my 33rd year of age I noticed that the problem lies not on the system of Philippine governance but rather than vast majority of Filipinos' attitude and wrong cultural diversification.
Corruption, less education and weak religious belief are the factors that's why this country never rose up from the slump, but what would be that great idea on how can we fight and bestow strong ethical practices for us to have a successful and graceful country.
As I observed further, Filipinos are born intelligent in nature; they just need to be tamed to shy away from corrupt practice.  One reason why I also believe that a person with a very high IQ is way corrupt compared to an average person, because they know how to explain and get away from immoral circumstances.
I am planning of putting up a school that has a proposition of a strong Ethical practice/subject, a university that gives priority to Leadership with Ethics or a school that also produce Lawyers but with great integral practice for Ethics.
Ethics and Leadership will be part of the syllabus that will be practiced over and over again, it will be Ethics subject 101 up to the last major subject offered by the syllabus, with this, I also noticed that all corrupt officials and business persons came from a good and reputable school and yet they still perform with shame.
The School of Ethics, this would be the name of the university someday I intend to build.  The school will produce great leaders that will never practice any wrong doings and a God fearing person.  School of Ethics will offer also offer Law studies partnered with Ethics subject every term, the same with Medicine.
As of today, no school is yet to come up with strong Ethical practice. Most schools only adopt certain units for teaching Ethics and Leadership, but no one focuses on developing such concept.  I will strengthen the foundation of learning for our youth, for it is said that they will build the future, for what kind of future we will have or our love ones if we produce selfish beasts that kneels for money.4

What pisses me off at AGSB - NU12 by Martin Revilla

Ramon Martin P. Revilla Professor Jorge Saguinsin

What pisses me off at AGSB?
During my undergraduate studies I often dream of enrolling at Ateneo Professional School, it is my goal that someday I wish to be part of a credible school that not only provides quality education but also ethical teachings.  This dream came true when opportunity knocks and my perseverance pave way for being an MBA student. But what pisses me off at the school.
In my first few semesters I often wonder how would I survive knowing the competition I would face and maintaining a QPI grade average in order for me to withstand my probationary status, this gave me great sacrifice on how to manage my time with Family, wife, friends and personal.
Work life balance for me is important, spending time for yourself your love ones and peers generates memorable moments that time could not repeat, it can also affect if the student is working.  Working MBA students are somewhat un-noticed of their efforts as compared with full time students.  I think AGSB should re-evaluate the module being taught for MBA students base on their status.
·      It really pisses me off if some assignments needed heavy research, where it takes large amount of time and energy, even group meetings just for a report or presentation to be done.
·      Second, I think AGSB online system must be upgraded for it always encounter problems every enrollment, they always have this alibi of fixing and upgrading during enrollment days.
·      Third, AGSB should upgrade facilities, yes quality education is given but it needed attention for structure innovation. (Auditorium, Library, Canteen, Classroom equipment)
·      Fourth, AGSB should extend class hours during Saturday's, this helps employed students of not enrolling on week day classes
·      Fifth, for MBA Students taking Strategic Management class, AGSB must have course reviewer before defending his/her paper, this will help students recall what they learn during the past semesters. 1 week or 2weeks course review
Even though, it is said that you need to have great sacrifice to finish post grad studies, but if there are ways or other opportunity for you to learn and spend more time with love ones, then do so.  In life what important is, no matter what you do you must have happiness. Enjoy while learning and learn while enjoying.  3

Martin Revilla - NU12 Cellular Phone Innovations

Cellular Phone Innovation – 3G Hologram calls in the palm of your hand
Product development is the process of bringing a new product/products to the marketplace. Any business may need to engage in this process due to changes in consumer preferences, interests, increasing competition and advances in technology. Innovative businesses thrive by understanding what their market wants, making smart product improvements, and developing new products that meet and exceed their customers' expectations.
New products and improvement can be:
·      Products that your business has never made or sold before but have been taken to market by others
·      Product innovations created and brought to the market for the first time. They may be completely original products, or existing products that you have modified and improved.
Improvements and developments of products are not limited to existing businesses. New businesses, sole traders or even freelancers can forge a place in the market by researching, developing and introducing new or even one-off products.  Better marketing strategies and marketing plan will direct your product launch and help you make the most of your business and product exposure opportunities.
For Filipino's mobile phones have become a must and also for people from all over the world. An opportunity to stay in touch with friends and family members, access to email and business associates are just a few of reasons for the boosting importance of cell phones. Modern technically advanced cell phones are able not just receive and make mobile phone calls; it can take pictures, store data, and utilize your mobile phone as walkie-talkie. As well, there are a lot of various options that are available for users.
When mobile phones were introduced, they were expensive, bulky and some of them are even required a base unit to be transported along with the mobile phone. That time the major problem was quality reception and in fact early cell phones could just be used in certain locations where the cell phone signal was quite strong. With the advances in mobile phone technology, the difficult in utilizing them became easier. These days, cell phone reception has improved because of the use of satellites and wireless services. Because mobile phones are improved and became quite simple to use, the importance of mobile phones boosted as well.
I was thinking of a cellular innovation, introducing a new technology in terms of 3G calls, somewhat more engage and lively, out of this world concept that maybe or could be introduced years from now.  The idea is hologram 3g imaging where you can see "live" image of the person whom you're talking to, in a small image somewhat laser like light digital image coming out from the cellular phone.  This idea is not far from reality, cellular phone wants and needs for consumers are somewhat demanding and company's always innovate its specifications.  Right now the latest cellular innovation available is a 3d holographic movie with no glasses required.  The still images and video created are visible from wide angles, unlike other 3-D imaging technologies, which tend to limit how far to one side the viewer can be from the hologram.

Ramon Martin P. Revilla - NU 12 paper #3 - Professionalism – new work, methods, practices

Professionalism – new work, methods, practices
Medical and Sales Representatives, Detail Man is it a professional job, or do you need to neither be functional nor be competitive?
Sales and marketing is a kind of job that requires great ideas, creativity and innovative thinking.  It is said that a great sales and marketing person produces his/her best output during high degree of pressure, that is why it is also said that sales and marketing is a good stepping stone for a career path.
But can we consider sales and marketing a career? Do they need to have functional and repetitive working environment? Is it necessary to have a competency for employee differentiation, will the numbers or quality/volume of sales will gauge the skills of a great sales person?
Being a medical sales representative (detail man) as they call it before requires a holistic skill competency for it caters different job aspects at certain degree of difficulty, now a days in order for a sales person to deliver sales he/she first needs to deliver the needs and wants of the client.  A skill that requires flexibility of character and focus in client profiling, here are some of my thoughts on how to be a successful sales person:
Customer Engage – great sales persons not only focus on clients, rather have commitment on delivering needs and wants, with engagement it separates the sales person and creates his/her differentiation among other sales person. Focus is different with engagement.
Business Analysis – it is said that if a soldier would go to war he/she must be knowledgeable of the battlefield and always prepared on what to do.  In sales and marketing, it is important to do a geographical strategy of the area, know the key opinion leaders, availability of distribution channels and know what problems needed for solutions.
Innovative – sales and marketing people always need to provide creative ideas, introduces and applies something new, useful and valuable to the company and its stakeholders most especially its customers.  There is a saying in marketing " Don't sell the steak, sell the sizzle" < Let us mention some of these Martin>
Act like an Entrepreneur – sales people must have mindsets of as if they own the company, they need to show integrity and sincerity for their jobs and produce better or outstanding performance sales outputs, sees opportunities, enhances results and consider setbacks as learning opportunities.
Leadership Skills – demonstrates ability to carry out company's vision to manage changes; leads, builds and motivates co workers/team mates to achieve objectives with integrity and proactivity.  This skill is the most important competency; it can inspire and influence colleagues for a sustainable and successful common goal.
Team Work – collaborates to achieve common objectives and encourages diversity of views and creates synergies among team members and across work units.  This can lead to better working environment both internal and external.
Communication – in sales, communication is the most important part.  Integrated communication is the best weapon a sales person must have, with proper endorsements and clear client – sales communication it will ensure that the information is passed on to others who need to be kept informed detailed and accurately.
Working in sales and marketing requires not only being functional, it requires skills of some extraordinary, a competency that separates the good from the best and the best from the excellent.  The job must be considered as a profession not just a stepping-stone for another career.

NU 12 # 2 - Potential Business Opportunities in the Philippines

Potential Business Opportunities in the Philippines
It's no wonder that investors are pouring in for the Philippines in the last five years—with a steady positive economic growth, stable government and overflowing workforce, today is the best time to start your own business in the country.  Starting your own business is no easy feat—you have to have ample capital, right suppliers and market so that once you are ready with your product or service, ROI is easily attainable.  Here are several business opportunities that might give Juan Dela Cruz a good start:
Virtual offices, in layman's term, virtual offices are a "mobile or remote work-environment equipped with telecommunication links and basic office furniture, but without a fixed office space." In the Philippines, this is a fairly new concept and though it is more expensive to set up than a retail or grocery store, there are emerging clients in this industry because the clientele is mostly foreign businesses.  In setting up a virtual office, it has to be in a prime location, with top-of-the-line facilities and equipment's and knowledgeable virtual office assistants. Having these three requirements require sufficient capital so might want to have other partners.
Philippine Tourism is widely promoted since the Department of Tourism released its "More Fun in the Philippines" campaign in 2012.  And since then, local and foreign tourists are flocking to different beaches and trying out new adventures that every Philippine province has to offer.  Because of this, tour and hotel accommodation packages are a booming business and as early as today, you should take advantage of the situation because for sure, this will only get bigger in the years to come.
Philippine Coffee industry, the Philippines is the largest coffee drinkers in Southeast Asia and if that does not give you a clue on what should your business be this year, then, it's about time to wake up and smell the coffee.
But the focus here is not about establishing your own café, rather, focusing on exporting coffee beans. The Philippine soil and climate is ideal for planting different varieties of coffee; but the downside is, prices of land gets higher every year; so as early as today, invest in land and plant coffee.
Investment brokering, like I mentioned earlier investors are pouring in and they are going to look for potential moneymakers that will help them broker deals. Setting up an investment-brokering firm should be your obvious choice if you have experience in investment banking, brokerage, etc. This is also good business because there are many aspects that you can choose from including foreign exchange, real estate, stocks, corporate papers and insurance.
Above all these opportunities, what is important for entrepreneurs are their passion on what business they would pursue.  Business opportunities can determine success rate, and show potential profit but without interest and passion on what you do it would not be sustainable.  Innovation with passion leads a stable and growing business.  < hi Martin please submit something new that came from your creative imagination/insight, yung pagkakaperahan>
