NU 12 by Akeel Dalisay EC tag balance display

CREDIT BALANCE DISPLAY FOR NLEX'S EZ-TRIP / EASY TAG
I live in Meycauayan, Bulacan; so coming from work (Makati City) I take North Luzon Expressway as my best route.  Common problem with their tollgates during rush hour is the long queue so I decided to purchase their Easy Tag (now EZ-Trip) to avoid the waiting time, especially during long weekends and holidays when motorists are expected to swarm the Super Highway en route to their respective provinces or vacation destinations.  Loading amount can be from P200, P500, P1,000 (I heard before you can load even up to P10,000).   Presently, they have an indicator at their tollgates if your credits is below the maintaining balance of P500; instead of a green light, a yellow light will be flashed together with a caption of "Low Balance" in their display.  However, they have the display for your current balance, so you have to monitor your usage by yourself since you won't be able to pass by if your balance is below P100.  Although you can call their hotline or visit their website, access your account and check your balance, it will be easier and more convenient if they have a balance display flashed to you as you pass by their Easy Tag Only tollgates.  3

THE COMMUTER APP
Before I had a car, I've been a commuter for quite a long time.  My job involves fieldworks, and sometimes we have to proceed directly to our client's offices or residences.  Commuting is quite a hassle especially if you're not familiar with the place and its public transportation.  Since every mobile phone today is internet-ready, I wanted to develop a Commuter App.  We do the navigation apps (GPS-based) which tells you your location and shortest routes to certain places from your origin but through a private car.  So what about the commuters?  The Commuter App, just like the existing mapping applications, will show you your location.  Let's say your in Makati's Central Business District, along Ayala Avenue to be specific, and you wanted to go SM Megamall, so what are you going to do? What public transportation will you take to be able to go to your destination?  The Commuter App will tell you (or show you) the nearest public transport terminal, and the means of public transport to take.  Just input your destination and possible choices will be shown.  It will also tell you that you can a city bus as alternative to the MRT3, or if want to ride the jeepney, it will tell you which jeepney to board on and what signage should it bear.  It will tell you your possible options (as many as possible), and how much estimated time will it take you to reach your destination and the distance from your point of origin.  The simplest and last option it will display, of course, is to take a cab. 4

WIFI CONTROL PAD
Ever wondered if your neighbour knew about your wi-fi password?  Or how many devices are connected to your wi-fi server?  If you are sharing your wi-fi, do you want to regulate or limit the bandwidth of other devices so your own device won't experience slow connection?  How about a remote control to shut off your router if not in use?  These are what my proposed "Wi-Fi Control Pad" can do.  Frequency is so strong that you turn off your modem router downstairs even if you're upstairs.  It has a screen display (LCD will do for now) which will show you the speed of your connection, how many devices are connected to the Internet though your router (and can kick those un-authorized free-users if you like), or change your access password.  What's the best part is: you can share your internet, of course, but sometimes, sharing means slow connection as the bandwidth was divided among you and your users; so why not set a certain limit of bandwidth to other connections to keep the bandwidth speed to your devices fixed?  This way, no matter how many other connections you have, you'll still enjoy your internet without being "madamot" to your friends.  3

Nu12 (6) by Akeel Dalisay - no flat tires

DALISAY, AKEEL

SOLID TIRES FOR PRIVATE VEHICLES

Ever had a flat tire in the middle of the road? Such a hassle, isn't it? Worstis, if you don't know how to change a tire. Why can't we just have a solid tire (like those used in Formula 1 Racing), instead of a pneumatic tire which is prone to being deflated?
"Many tires used in industrial and commercial applications are non-pneumatic, and are manufactured from solid rubber and plastic compounds via molding operations. Solid tires include those used for lawn mowers, skateboards, golf carts, scooters, and many types of light industrial vehicles, carts, and trailers. One of the most common applications for solid tires is for material handling equipment (forklifts). Such tires are installed by means of a hydraulic tire press."
Solid tires are primarily made of solid rubber; they need not have to be filled with air, thus literally, no "flat tire". This be heavier and will cost more, yet, I guess its durability and "no-flat" assurance can compensate its negative features. It also has a minimal maintenance as you don't have to check your tire pressures from time to time. It also provides better traction and grip on the road (avoids slips), thus improving handling and minimizing traction-related vehicular accidents. There should be a marking on the tire which will indicate when to change tires due to its wear-and-tear.  3  <used in the military and construction;  there are gel filled tires that automatically seal off punctures;  the gel can be inflated into tires

NU 12 by Akeel Dalisay: Electronic adjustable car tint

            MAGIC CAR WINDOW TINT
When I'm driving at night, I always want to see the road clearly as I usually traverse dark roads on my way home; thus "clear" or no-tint car windows will work well for such situations.  However, I have to endure the burning heat of the sun whenever I drive from around 10AM to 3PM if my car windows have no tint.  Can I just have a window tint that I can remove or de-activate when I wanted to?  So I can drive comfortably at night, as well protect myself from heat at day.
If given enough resources (or knowledge as well), I want to create a special electronic window tint or glass.  Take an ordinary car window; if it is equipped with the special tint, you can have a lever or knob on your dashboard to adjust the darkness of your windows during the day, or you can simply de-activate it at night for better driving vision. It could be manually adjusted or it could also be automatic (which will have a sensor, to determine how dark or light your window tint will be depending on the heat or intensity of the sun) that will tint your window just enough to significantly lessen the heat and light and still provide a good driving vision as well.
I checked the Internet if such product already exists;  so far, there's only this window (for houses or buildings) that can transform your transparent glass to frosted glass.  Created mainly to provide privacy and minimize brightness brought by the sun.  I wish then can create the same product to be used for automobiles as well (or another idea is the same product concept or technology for eyeglasses- photochromic glasses).  4

SERENDIPITY WALK
Some 10 years back, "Sto. Niño" in Meycauayan, Bulacan is just an ordinary commercial area; bazaars, a wet & dry market, some pawnshops, and small cake shop, a number of lying-in and dental clinics exist. The prominent establishments / landmarks in the area are Sto. Niño Parish Church and St. Mary's Academy.
It has a good potential of being a commercial district since it is the drop-off point of public utility vehicles coming from Monumento (Caloocan) and Trinoma / SM North EDSA (QC). The area is also surrounded by residential subdivisions, thus capturing a decent market that does not have to go elsewhere or to SM Marilao anymore for their needs. Additional business establishments will seem to be profitable as evidenced by continuous emergence of other businesses.
For the past 3 to 5 years, continuous commercialization was witnessed in the area, as commercial establishments started to multiply, new entrants started to surface, and big names in various industry stated to put up their businesses. As of present, the following are the observed existing establishments within Sto. Niño Commercial District:
• Barber shops
• Car wash
• Vulcanizing / tire supply shop
• Computer rentals / internet café
• Lying-in clinics
• Dental clinics
• Hardware stores
• Laundry shops

NU 12 # 3 by Akeel Dalisay - Advance Notice at Drive Thru

            PICK-UP DRIVE-THRU
Workday mornings, people usually are in a hurry; from taking a bath, to choosing their clothes, and eating breakfast (that most people chose not to), to avoid traffic jams and parking slot queues.  Well, breakfast is said to be the most important meal of the day as it provides you energy to last through out the tough day.  Worst, even fast food drive-thru usually had long queues during the morning rush hour.  So, what if we can call in our orders even before we get to the drive-thru?  Less hassle, eh?  What you just have to do is pay for your order and pick it up.
Here's the thing; you're in a hurry, so eating breakfast will take much of your time as well.  You're anticipating long queue on the drive-thru; so you give your nearest drive-thru a call; give them your orders and your name, and the estimated time of your arrival (to keep your food fresh); when you reached your fast food drive-thru, just tell them your name, pay your bill, pick up your food, and leave.  Voila!  Less waiting time; and even if there's a queue, customers are attended to in a just a few minutes since they'll just be picking up their orders too and pay their bills.
Another idea; payment may be done through a credit card or an online payment system (like Pay Pal).  This time, order will be made online (most people surf the internet when stuck in traffic).  A separate booth will then be provided for both concepts, not to mix the "walk-in" drive-thru customers from those who phoned their orders.
These may be a bit time-saving, yet there could be cost increase for additional booths.  Security (especially for credit card transactions) can also be an issue.  However, convenience here is better than spending more time waiting than an ordinary drive-thru. 3

            GROCERY CART with SCANNERS
Long queues are usual problems in supermarkets, especially during the Holiday Seasons.  Carts of groceries scanned one by one through a laser bar code reader, takes a lot of time.  So I came up with an idea.  How about integrating a scanner into the grocery cart?  Before you put an item into the cart, you can scan for its first; if you wanted to purchase it, just tap a few buttons to add that item to your virtual cart.  You can now see how much you'll be spending even before you go to the payment counters; that way, you can still return those items you deem not so necessary or out of your budget.  So now you're done shopping, time to pay up your items.  You just have to give your scanner to the cashier; the cashier will then display your total amount due, and then pay for it.  Every counter will now have a detector; this will check if you have items that were not scanned by your cart scanner.
This concept can shorten the queue in supermarkets, since each customer won't have to wait until the cashier finishes scanning each item one at a time.  It may be a little more high-tech that what we see in the industry today, yet there can still be savings in part of the business owner.  Since the scanner / counter detector thing can hasten the payment process, fewer payment counters will be needed.  Fewer employees will be needed also; the cashiers themselves can also be the bagger, so you won't need two employees per payment counter, thus cutting cost for your business.  It could also be your advantage against your competitors as you provide utmost convenience and less hassle and wasted time. 3.5  (dapat well guarded ang shopping carts)

NU 12 -WHAT PISSES YOU OFF AT THE NEIGHBORHOOD? WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST?

WHAT PISSES YOU OFF AT THE NEIGHBORHOOD? WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST?
I live with my family in our house. We lived in a condominium along Retiro in Quezon City. It is a twelve floors condominium with an elevator secured by five rotating guards and a segregated parking lot. We only rented a three-bedroom unit for almost thirteen years. It has a back up generator that is operating during brownouts. The parking lots provided by the building were only few that it cannot provide all the tenants. It also has a separate payment for the parking rentals. Since the built in parking lots in the building were just few the owner decided to buy an open lot nearby for additional parking.

Parking were really a major issue here in our vicinity since everybody wants a secured area for his or her cars. Some tenants have plenty of cars and would just rent only one parking area. Since the parking were so few and the tenants avoids additional expense for the parking lots, the tenants parked along the street of the condominium. The owner of the condominium also live in the condominium. He is aware of the situation. It is especially more tough these days because it always flooded. When it floods, we have to relocate our cars from the open lot parking area because the flood might reach our cars. During normal days we just park along the street. It is really frightening because it is unsecured. But due to parking situation we have no choice. There was a time that my side mirror was stolen because I parked in the street. It cost me a lot. What annoys me is that why don't the owner give a lower rate for the parking so that everybody can have a secured parking lot. Anyway the parking area is not fully occupied. He does not even perceived that some tenants would have more than one car. We almost live there thirteen years, I believed that we have a reason to request for a complimentary. The good business relationship should be maintained. 3

NU 12 by Akeel Dalisay - duo debit credit card

DALISAY, AKEEL ZEAN D.
ENTREP S10
NU12 (2)

There is one feature I want our local banks to have; a" duo" card, debit card and credit in one.

Most of us, have our own respective debit cards (or more known as ATM card), which are linked to our savings or checking (current) accounts and provides convenience for not carrying loads of cash when we shop or travel, and having the funds when we need it without going to your bank's branch to transact over the counter.  Then there goes the credit cards (or plastic money), where we can purchase without the need for cash, and despite we don't have a budget yet.   But why can't we have both in one?  Especially if we maintain our savings account / debit card and credit card with the same bank?  It may also be a good idea to merge to accounts from two different banks in one card, but one thing for the banks here is to promote loyalty from their clients / account holders.
My concept; the card will look just like you regular debit or credit card; but with two magnetic strips, one for your credit card transactions and the other for your debit transactions.  Processes are the same with each strips; the credit strip will require signed tape receipts, while the debit strip will require an entry of your PIN.

This Duo Card was already offered by a Cincinnati-based bank in 2011, and I just wish we also have it here.

Here an article online from http://bucks.blogs.nytimes.com/:
"A Credit and Debit Card: 2 Cards in One":
It's one of those things that makes you wonder why it wasn't available before. Fifth Third Bank has just introduced Duo, a piece of plastic that works as both a debit card and a credit card.
Fifth Third, based in Cincinnati, says that while various institutions have been testing the cards, it is the first to formally offer it to consumers. Research with its own customers suggested that there was a significant demand for the two-in-one cards, said Stephanie Honan, a spokeswoman for Fifth Third. Many customers use both type of cards — debit for smaller purchases, say, and credit for larger purchases they want to pay off over time. So, she said, customers like the idea of being able to choose credit or debit while carrying just one card.
Here's how it works: First, you have to have a checking account at Fifth Third, since debit cards are linked to checking accounts. Then, if you want, you can apply for the Duo card, just as you would apply for any credit card.
When you go shopping, you decide how you want to use the card at checkout. After you swipe the card, the terminal prompts you to choose "credit" or "debit." If you select debit, you type in your PIN, and the funds are withdrawn from your checking account.  If you choose credit, you sign for the purchase, and the cost of the item is charged to your line of credit.
As long as you choose credit, you can earn rewards points for your purchases.
(Unlike some multiuse cards that have been tested, however, Duo does not offer the option of paying directly with rewards points. Citibank has been testing such a credit card — called 2G, for second generation — and had been scheduled to make it widely available sometime this year. A bank spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for an update on its plans.)
While the Duo cards offer flexibility, you do have to pay attention. If you somehow make a mistake, and hit "debit" when you do not have enough funds in your checking account for the purchase, the item will be covered by overdraft protection — and you'll pay an associated fee.
The move may also benefit banks in another way, says an analyst's report from Barclays Capital. The report suggests the dual-use cards, which do not offer a signature debit option, represent a move by banks to encourage more use of credit, rather than signature debit, because signature debit transactions have been cited by the Federal Reserve as having higher fraud costs than the PIN version. "As a result, we believe that banks are beginning to explore steering customers toward credit card transactions in place of signature debit transactions," the report from the analyst, Darrin Peller, said.
Does a dual credit and debit card make sense to you? Would you find such a card useful?

Hi Sir,
I am resending my NU12 #1 as I sent it as a mail attachment last Monday.
Thank You.

NU12 (1)

I've been in the banking industry for almost 10 years, and looking back at 2004, changes happened, especially in technology.  There are machines or devices used 10 years ago that has been replaced or innovated these days.
One of the new equipment launched recently is Chinabanks' Cash Accept Machine or CAM.  CAM is an innovation to the old depositories beside ATM's.  As compared to the old depositories wherein cash deposits will be credited the next banking day or so, CAM will process your deposit real-time and will be credited to the account in a matter of minutes.  While it gives clients convenience in avoiding long lines in depositing their moneys to tellers, process in is quick and real-time.
Here's an article (China Bank fields cash-accepting ATMs) from the Business section of www.philstar.com, dated July 10, 2012:
"MANILA, Philippines - The China Banking Corp. (China Bank) has introduced an automated teller machine (ATM) that receives cash called the China Bank Cash-Accept Machine or CAM, a state-of-the art NCR SelfServ 31 terminal.  CAM accepts P100, P500, and P1,000 bills (both the old and new series) for real-time credit to a China Bank savings or checking account. Unlike other banks' deposit machines, CAM doesn't require a China Bank ATM card, so other depositors who need to make a deposit to a China Bank account can use it.  CAM can also process deposits in a combination of P100s, P500s, and P1,000s – other deposit machines only allow deposits in the same denomination at a time.  A transaction takes just two to three minutes, which involves punching in the China Bank account number where the deposit will be credited, inserting the bills (up to a maximum of 90 bills per transaction), and waiting for the transaction receipt.  Deposits are instantaneously credited. Presently, China Bank's Makati main branch in Paseo de Roxas has a CAM, plans to deploy at least five more CAMs at selected branches within the year, and is also looking at expanding CAM's service to include acceptance of bills payments."
Other institutions in the banking industry won't be left behind in terms of technological advancements and innovations.  Take Bank of the Philippine Islands.  From their BEA (BPI Express Assist), which allows bank customers to enter transaction data and needed service on touch-screen machines together with the queue number, they launched BEA Online, a first in Philippine banking industry.  "This facility enables customers to choose a time-slot for their branch transactions, making branch banking faster and more convenient."  Here's an article from www.malaya.com.ph (BPI launches first online queuing system for branch transactions) about BPI's BEA Online:
"The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) launched another first in Philippine banking - the BPI Express Assist (BEA) Online.
BEA Online is an online branch transaction appointment system built-in to BPI Express Online, the bank's online banking platform.
This facility enables customers to choose a time-slot for their branch transactions, making branch banking faster and more convenient.
BEA Online is an off-shoot of the BPI Express Assist (BEA) terminals installed in the branches.
BEA eliminates the need to fill-up paper forms since it now allows branch customers to input their branch transaction details into a touch-screen terminal instead. Upon submission, the transaction details are automatically transmitted to the tellers and customers are issued queue numbers.
Rather than waiting in line, customers can just sit down and relax while waiting for their queue numbers to be called.
This facility has effectively reduced the customers' waiting time at the branch.
Likewise, with BEA Online, customers can now choose time-slots for their branch transactions in advance.
Customers simply need to log-in to www.bpiexpressonline.com, click on Other Services, and then click on BPI Express Assist Online.
After which, they may choose their preferred BPI branch, date, and time for where they will fulfill the transaction, then input their transaction details.
Electronic queue numbers will be issued for the Deposit, Withdrawal, Encashment, or Bills Payment transactions they have encoded online.
"Our clients had a better banking experience when we launched BEA last year. This time we are making it even easier for them as BEA goes online. BEA Online will enable our clients to reduce their waiting time at the branch, through the liberty of arriving there when their branch transaction would be fulfilled. We have brought forth this innovation in-line with the bank's objective of making transacting easy for our clients, while also improving the customer traffic flow at the branches," shares Natividad Alejo, BPI Executive Vice President and Head of Consumer Banking Group.
"We are excited for the benefits that BEA Online provides to BPI clients. We have always envisioned empowering Filipinos to take-charge of their lifestyle by allowing them to put their banking time in perspective and providing them more personal time. This way we continue our thrust in making banking easy for our customers as we give them the opportunity to be first in-line for their banking transactions," concludes Manuel Tagaza, BPI Senior Vice President and Head of Electronic Channels Group.
Through BEA Online, transacting at the branch is now more convenient. Try it out by registering in or logging-in to BPI Express Online today."  <hi Akeel a corporate innovation does not qualify.  It must be yoiur own>
