3.  I was with my cousin and her friends (they are all deaf) when I thought of this idea. I know some of the sign language but I couldn't understand everything they are talking about because their hands are so fast so I thought, is there a device been invented to translate a sign language into a spoken language and vice-versa, so that bus drivers or people around them can understand what they are trying to say.

We live in Valley Golf and the intersection of Celso Tuason Ave and Ortigas Ave Ext is already abuzz with commercial establishments. A Mitsubishi plant is a famous landmark.  We have Jollibee at the corner and just across is McDonald's. Beside Jollibee is Ministop while along McDonald's are a talipapa and several fruits stands. A few meters away is Honda Cars Rizal, Shell Gas Station and just opened STI College. Across Shell is Mandaue Foam. The vicinity around these street intersections are residential subdvisions from Ortigas Ave ext all the way to Sumulong Highway in Antipolo. There is a tricycle terminal at the gate of Valley Golf. I took a walk one night and listed the following business opportunities that I can think of that will provide the needs of the people in the r esidential subdivisions.

SERENDIPITY WALK
Some 10 years back, "Sto. Niño" in Meycauayan, Bulacan is just an ordinary commercial area; bazaars, a wet & dry market, some pawnshops, and small cake shop, a number of lying-in and dental clinics exist. The prominent establishments / landmarks in the area are Sto. Niño Parish Church and St. Mary's Academy.
It has a good potential of being a commercial district since it is the drop-off point of public utility vehicles coming from Monumento (Caloocan) and Trinoma / SM North EDSA (QC). The area is also surrounded by residential subdivisions, thus capturing a decent market that does not have to go elsewhere or to SM Marilao anymore for their needs. Additional business establishments will seem to be profitable as evidenced by continuous emergence of other businesses.
For the past 3 to 5 years, continuous commercialization was witnessed in the area, as commercial establishments started to multiply, new entrants started to surface, and big names in various industry stated to put up their businesses. As of present, the following are the observed existing establishments within Sto. Niño Commercial District:

Regalado Avenue corner Quirino Highway, Novaliches is a sprouting business hub.  In my 13 years of residing the area, I've seen how the business giants Henry Sy (SM Fairview), John Gokongwei (Robinson's Novaliches) changed the landscape of the business in Lagro, Novaliches.  And coming soon,  the Ayala's (Fairview Terraces) whose first phase is to be completed this 2013.

In the early 90's when we still reside in East Fairview, the nearest commercial mall that we can visit is the Ever Gotesco along Commonwealth Ave fronting Don Antonio Village.  Fairview and Lagro residents rejoiced when SM Fairview opened its doors to the customers in 1997 followed by Robinson's Novaliches in 2001.  The presence of these malls made residential and commercial real estate within the area appreciate in terms of value.

Today, business establishments have sprouted within a kilometer radius from the intersection.  According to the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP), the MRT 7 grid will traverse from North Avenue then along Commonwealth Ave, Regalado Ave. & Quirino highway up to Araneta San Jose Del Monte City Bulacan.  The corner of Regalado-Quirino Hiway will be a node (one of the major MRT terminal) will be the most strategic locations for a business.  Considering the MRT 7 has not yet materialize, this intersection is already being flocked by heavy foot traffic because buses, jeepneys and UV express unloads passengers from Manila/Makati and loads passengers travelling to Novaliches/Bulacan. 

When you see heavy foot traffic in an area, it only means opportunity for an entrepreneur. 

Legitimate entrepreneurs and street hawkers ply their business competing a portion of their meager daily earnings.  Maybe if I were to put up my own enterprising business, here are the potential businesses that I will venture that will cater to the C&D markets:

-     Roving food cart (siomai, gulaman, lugao, fish ball)

-     Ready-made bus/jeepney/UV express placard with various destinations for sale

-     Pre-paid call cards

-     Mobile phone pre-paid cards & accessories

-     China made gadgets (pocket size transistor radios, tools, flashlights, laser pointers, etc.)

-     Watch repair/battery replacement shop

-     Ready-to-wear garments & shoes, face towels, belts

-     Fruit & vegetable stand  3

I was rather bored this afternoon and too tired to do anything productive (before this post) and I thought to buy myself merienda in our local talipapa or market in Kalayaan Makati.  A lot of things have changed since I was a kid growing up in the same streets, the roads and drainage for one have been much better than my flood-stricken childhood.  The same old suspects are roaming the streets, shirtless, jobless, day in and day out. One big difference though is the abundance of entrepreneurial vibe that I found in the streets, I used to just see small carinderias a bakery and sari-sari stores when I was a kid, but now, left and right you would see computer shops, sit down tapsilog and pares places, a couple of siomai stores, a hardware, banana cue, ginataan, palabok, lumpia and all kinds of merienda, I even saw a walk-in videoke room charging 5 pesos per song.  And all these in just 1 busy street, you tend to think how these businesses actually survive given that their only market are those who live in our barangay.  Got me thinking, if I were to start something here, what could it be?
