Sugar based plastic

Repost from fnq

The solution to recycling lies in sugar.  Sugar from corn (or sugar cane ) can be processed to produce, carbon the building block of plastic.  Corn sugar produces PLA polylactide, which becomes carbon to produce various plastic products:    bags, fibers,  and fabrics in plants in HK, Japan, USA and marketed under the brand "Ingeo" meaning things of the earth.

Plastics from sugar takes only one month to degrade compared to decades for traditional plastics

I am kind of  late learning this.  I learned this at Al Jazeera which featured Italian efforts on sugar plastics.  This article means it has been around a decade ago (2003)
