Notes on submission of NU 10 (New Ideas)

New ideas create better quality of life and wealth

Ateneo Professional School
Makati City
May 30, 2016

This is to congratulate those who were able to submit, email their assignments to this site.  You have the entire sem to submit the assignments and yet many opted to submit theirs in one batch. That is very admireable.  You need to submit only 10 new ideas for the entire semester, not 10 new ideas for the next 10 weeks.  (Whew what a relief?!)Yo
These are my comments:

1.  The new ideas must be yours and not coming from the net.  You have to describe the situation where the ideas from the net can be applied. This is an exercise on your creativity.

2.  Since you have all the time in the entire sem to submit the new 10, kindly take some more patience and effort to discuss/detail:

     1.  The background:   current situation, the pain being encountered currently
     2.  Aside from the concept, discuss how the innovation would work
     3.  What would be the gain from the innovation
     4.  How, who, how much will can implement the innovation

3. The works of Dra. Charis Santiago, Dra. Garcia, Burgos and Mikee would approach the expectations/standards.  But Dra Santiagos grid would   meet this standard the most

The others can level up their submission

Limited access to health facilities in rural communities.
Government health facilities have a few vehicles to transport patients and healthcare personnel.
Poor maintenance of existing vehicles.

Reaching out to the lower income communities by providing low-cost, quality health care products.
Health Store Plus
This is based on an existing model known as Living Goods.

To provide affordable health care products for low-income communities in rural areas.
Study the most common high-burden diseases in low-income communities and determine which products will address the prevention and treatment of these diseases. In the Philippines, we need to deal with  diarrhea, malaria, tuberculosis, STD, and reproductive health.

Then a "central directory"'controlled by the TODA operator has the list of their numbers and addresses . This solves the long queueing of tricycles on narrow busy streets .

NU 10 ideas by Entrepreneur Dra. Charis Santiago

1. Computer that will recognise your own fingerprints for easy access.
I am usually frustrated whenever I would open accounts be it in the internet, subscription to articles, joining a group or even bank transactions. I am frustrated because it's either I would forget the account name or the password! I would like to think of a personal and easy way to log on an account without the hassle of remembering or trying to figure out what was the password or account name. How easy it would have been if there will be a computer that can detect your fingerprints. Whenever you open an account in the internet using the computer, it can sense your fingerprints and can easily access your account. I think this is possible with latest technology nowadays. It is also marketable especially to internet users. That is no exception to anyone since almost all people uses computers and keeps several accounts. Security will not be much of a concern because only the account holder may open the account. Fingerprints are used to determine if an account belongs to that person.

2.  NURSING HOME FOR EXPATRIATES.
This idea came up when a cousin of ours asked us if we can put up a home care in the province. This is so because we have an existing hospital, the atmosphere and weather condition in the province will be conducive for elderlies and there is easy access to caregivers since we are also operating a school for caregivers. This will be available for Filipinos who are receiving pension abroad. Charges will be based on the level of assistance needed by the elderlies. Promotion and marketing will not be a difficulty because we will be tapping on friends and relatives whose family are all base abroad. Finances to cover the client's expenses will be coming from the pension and contribution from their own family members. This will be acceptable to expatriates since they will gladly be taken cared of in the Philippines than left alone in health care facilities abroad.

3.  CONSULTATION  APP
I've noticed that patients are very much delighted whenever doctors will precisely explain to them the nature of their disease, treatment plan and possible complications and other details of their diseases. However, this is at times eliminated during consultation at doctor's clinic because of limited time given to each patient and long queue of patients. If there is a way that patients can fill in data about themselves or write down queries regarding their condition, doctors may review these data prior to consultation. Hence, somehow the doctor can easily summarise all those queries and explain to patients more precisely about their health in a precise manner. This will be a good tool for doctors who are always on the go.

4. CONSULTATION VIA SMS
In line with the above situation ( limited time to discuss patient's condition at doctor's clinic), I would suggest that there be an online website where queries on health will be available. This is a common practice in other countries however here in our country, seldom institutions has that capability. Only those who can afford to have websites can answer queries of patients and only those patients who have access to internet can inquire. Hence in this idea, SMS services may be utilised. Doctors may tap telephone companies where they can charge a certain amount for every query they send to doctors. This could be available and marketed to any Filipino who is interested to their health status. This will be more affordable and convenient than going to a doctors office. However, conditions and queries that will need physical appearance will also be advised.

5. EYEWEAR FOR THE BLIND
We would notice that most blinds wear dark glasses to cover the defect of their eyes. In this new age technology, I guess it is not impossible to create an eyewear that can have maps and sensors as well. This gadget will help blind clients familiarise themselves through voice dictation on which way to take. It may also send sound alarms if there are precautionary measures to be taken. This is similar to some smartphone applications like Waze. However, in this gadget, it is worn by the blind client. This will replace dog assistance or assistance from another person.
6. SAFETY FEATURES FOR MOTORCYCLES
Most of the latest models of vehicles are geared with several features that contributes to the safety of the passengers. These are the airbags, sensor alarm used for reverse/ backing of the vehicle and rear/ side cameras. I hope that companies will also create safety features attached in the motorcycles. There are increasing cases of vehicular accidents brought to the emergency room involving motorcycle laden passengers /drivers. One of the features can be a big airbag that will enclose or capture the passenger when there's an accident.

7. PILL CONDENSER
Most people are pissed off by intake of a handful pills. As a personal experience, my parents would be taking in 10-15 different medications on a daily basis! That results to poor compliance on the part of the patient. The solution to such problem could be a pill condenser. Pills may be grounded and compacted to a single capsule or the most 2 capsules.  This may be done by the patient himself or may be requested at the pharmacy.

8. FETAL MOVEMENT SENSOR
One of the parameters needed in managing pregnant mothers is tracking on the frequency of fetal movement. This parameter is highly important to tract the fetal wellbeing especially to high risk pregnancies like post term pregnancy, patients with medical conditions and the like. Fetal movement counting can be done manually as felt by the mother especially after intake of food. However, at times, the mother had difficulty of sensing these movements because fetal movements are masked by uterine contractions or the pain felt by the mother. For others, due to large physical built or thickness of abdominal fat, fetal movement is hardly felt. Hence, a devise attached on the abdomen similar to ECG electrodes or similar to handheld feral monitors would be of great help both for clinicians and mothers alike in monitoring feral well being.

9. TAXATION APP FOR DOCTORS
One of the waterloos of doctors is taxation and finance. With an available computer program or mobile app, it will be a lot easier for people specifically for doctors to just log on their daily income and expenses and come up with monthly, quarterly or yearly filled up BIR payments and forms. This will lessen the penalty as charged to late payments and also lessen the load for accountants in doing regular BIR requirements.

10.  PHILHEALTH AGENCY
I know of some hospitals who depend on philhealth as the major source of revenue. However, if claims and forms are poorly facilitated and done, it will result to denial of claims or at least deferred payments of claims. I guess if there will be an office or agency that will aid hospitals in filling of philhealth claims, lesser denied or poorly processed claims may be eliminated. This will work similar to travel agencies that assists people in acquiring visas to other countries. Likewise, this agency will oversee the filling of claims and enhance fast return of payment from philhealth. I think most hospitals will benefit from this in such that there will be less personnel on their part assigned to philhealth claims processing.
