Re: Paolo Bellosillo's NU12 # 5 - Dog Playground

Everybody says that having a dog is just like having a child. You feed it, you bathe it, and you spend money for it.

It is no doubt that Filipinos have a soft heart for dogs, especially if they are their pets. They spend so much money for their best friend. They even put their dogs in salons, spa, and pedicures.

Having a dog playground right in the middle of Manila may be a great idea, and a profitable business.

I have a Siberian Husky, and he is very active and hyper. The only time he is able to run is if we jog in the morning and if I let in out inside out backyard. But it seems that our backyard is very small for him. I wanted to have a playground for him where he can be free to run as fast and as far as he wants, do anything he wants, dig as deep as he wants, without me worrying about him getting away.

That's he concept of my proposed business. A dog playground. My customers will be those who want to set their dogs fee from running as fast and as far as they want without being worried, and play with other dogs. Dogs are happy when they are free, and so as their owners.

I will buy a vast land, probably about 1000sqm, and put a high fence all around it. It will just be an open space, and i will put some dog toys in there. Customers can bring in their dogs for a fee, and they can leave them there without worries.

I will also put a restaurant ir cafe beside the land for the owners to relax ans watch their dogs play around.

Future investments may be putting a dog spa, salon, pedicure, and maybe a restaurant for dogs. It will be a haven for the dogs.

Man's love or their dogs, their best friend, is reflected by setting them free and letting them experience the world, just like our children.  4  vg

Paolo Bellosillo's NU12 # 4 - Productivity - The In Basket

Productivity applies to all individuals in all situations, whether at work, in school, or at home. No matter what the situation is, you have to do an activity as productive and as efficient as possible.

Your brain is only capable of storing small amount of memory, and it will tend to forget all the input in a matter of minutes. You can't rely on your brain to collect and recall all the things that you have to do. You have to have some sort of an external collection of the things that you have to do and not to rely on your brain. So what do you do?

Sometimes the simplest solution is the most effective. For you to be productive, you have to have an "in basket"

An "in basket" is an external system outside your brain that helps you collect, recall, run though, and process all the projects and activities that you need to do, whether today, next week, or next year. It's the simplest way to be productive, and it's just a small invesment. All you need is, yes, a basket or a paper tray.

The idea is to put all the activities that you have do in the "in basket." If you have to call someone, set up a meetin with a client, buy a new tv, prepare for your birthday party, or do this and that project, make everything tangible by writing it in a piece of paper and put it in the "in basket." The idea is you collect all the things that you have to do in a centralized system. This will relieve your brain for thinking about so many things, and you are sure that you won't miss anything.

It is important that at the end of the day, you have tackled all the things in the "in basket" and if possible, empty it.

In this very simple way, you will never forget anything that you have to do. Improving your productivity is as simple as having an "in basket."

NU12 by Jaime Mendejar follow the sun hand over work process

New processes at work

As a brief background, I am currently employed with Hewlett-Packard as a SAP Technology Consultant wherein I support the daily operations of P*G plants in asia particularly for their material movement control systems in the SAP environment.  Basically, if a particular delivery does not come to or sent by P&G successfully, my team would be responsible to determine why this occurs.

My team currently is considered a 'Global' team, global in a sense that we support the global operations of P&G but not global in a way that everyone can support the operations of the different regions regardless of who is on shift.  So the current-set up is that there is an Asia team that covers 9AM-6PM, an EMEA team that works from 3PM-12MN, an NA team working from 6PM-3AM and lastly an LA team that works from 10PM-7AM.  These different teams have different solutions that it doesn't follow that if you know how to support the system in Asia, it doesn't mean that you can do the same for EMEA and NA. This means that whenever an incident or problem happens in an Asia plant or with an Asian user, the responsibility of handling such even if it is outside of our 9AM-6PM shift, we would still need to handle it instead of handing it over to EMEA or NA/LA team.

What's the proposal?

Create a scenario wherein our team can follow-the-sun and handover from 1 region to another any pending or newly opened issues across the global support system. How  do I intend to do it?  First, it would involve granting access to all required specialists to be able to support all regional systems, second, I would propose that key specialists mainly those who have more experience on the application and how to support it, would go on a 3 month rotation across the different regions to train and document the different processes that is required per region. Lastly,  After the 3 month program, the rotated specialist may now begin supporting different regions as a pilot run to see how much of the training can be applied.  Once the documentation has been established, he or she can then perform the training across the original region that he/she supports.  Though, it sounds like it may take a long time to establish and familiarize ourselves with but I believe that once this is in place, the work life balance of everyone involved would be much better as it would not require work outside of the usual office hours.  3.5

NU12 #5: Submitted by Ermel Retuta food intake controller?

NU12 # 5 – More food options
Submitted by Ermel Retuta

Managing your food intake
It is ironic that even with the increase on the interest of people towards healthy lifestyle and physically wanted to be lean, slim and sexy, less can you find the supply of low calorie and healthy food options. What if we create a device that manages the body's input of food, most especially the calorie count?
I remember the movie entitled "The Island", wherein the supply of food is controlled depending on the condition of the person. If the person is found to be high in blood pressure, his food options will be more on fiber and even if he wants bacon for breakfast he will be deprived of it.
Sound difficult right? Depriving yourself of eating what you want is the same as depriving yourself the freedom to enjoy life.
Thus, we need a personal device that gives us options on what type of food we can eat and how much do we need to intake to reach and achieve the daily goal on calorie intake.
This is how the device should work, you need to input your body's condition, weight, height, sugar level, blood pressure, HDL, LDL, cholesterol level, triglycerides etc. everything that is impacted every time you eat food or drink any form of liquid. Also, you can input physical activities for the day like exercises performed etc.
Now here's how the device should work, given the said condition it will give you options on what type of food you need to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner and it will also give you how much calorie you can take for the day.
This might sound like a simple diet plan given by dieticians but the difference is that the device is flexible enough to consider everything you had for the day, if you exercise today it should give you more options on food that you can take as the body needs more protein and energy. The same idea if you just sit there and no physical activities done for the day less will be the food options you can have.
I believe this should work as compared to existing diet plans as this is more realistic as it involves our choices and our actions.
Lastly, the device should be able to assess what works for you and what doesn't work. If you love broccoli but hate apple, it will give you options on the substitutes that you can take so as to get the equivalent nutrients supplied by those foods that you do not like to eat.  4
