One of the primary and major transport services in Metro Manila is Taxi/Cab. It is more convenient and comfortable rather than taking the MRT/LRT, Jeepney or Bus. But with every luxury and accessibility the equivalent would be the price.
Taxi drivers' culture in Metro Manila is far different from other places. Many of them lack discipline and customer orientation and as much as possible, I am trying to understand their behavior. The practice of most taxi driver in the Metro is this, if your taxi fare is P132.50 and you gave P150.00, mostly you won't get any change for it. This is what I usually experience whenever I take a cab in the Metro. As a customer, it is our right to be given an exact change. This is what pissed me of, especially most of my taxi rides are usually for official business and are subject for reimbursements and the amount will be based on the taxi receipt given and not the amount you paid to the taxi driver.
Applying the Top-up card payment option may lessen or in time eliminate the chances of this incident since the amount that will be topped up is the exact amount reflected on the metered machine. This card just like any other top up card is that is reloadable thru partner establishments like convenience stores, payment centers, gasoline stations, etc.
Top-up Taxi card can eventually progress as a travel card that can be used in bus, trains, domestic ferry ride and airfare or even be an all-in-one necessity card that can be used in most of our daily activities. 4
