When I was in England a few years ago, I visited some shops that sell different items with cheap prices. The shops were called charity shops and supported specific foundations for medical health and research. There were shops for breast cancer research, blood disorders, pediatric diseases etc. The goods sold were books, second hand clothes and new clothes, furniture , jewellery , kitchen appliances , antiques etc., some items were also in mint condition. I enjoyed shopping for a cause. I learned from my friend that these were non-profit stores and were opened to support legitimate projects.
So now I think that such "ukay-ukay" stores can be opened here to do the same mission of supporting a cause like a Dialysis on Wheels/Service ,to decrease the cause of the procedure. In England, the people who do some spring cleaning in their homes usually donate the goods to the charity shops and this idea can be promoted here especially now that the middle class sector is increasing and the average Filipino household have accumulated some stuff that they can donate.
