Background

The Philippine economy is on its road to becoming “Asia’s roaring tiger” from what it is previously branded as the “sick man of Asia”.

Some of evident changes and development today are: increased road security through closed circuit tv/cameras, regulated transport services, road condition improvement, road widening projects, police visibility and many more. It will not be far when portion of our roads will be converted to motorcycle lanes which will add to secure and safe commuting and personally I would like to see this in my life time.

These development can be tapped and leveraged for the improvement of other areas of public services like Education.

Challenge

As roads become more congested, the number of students increase and considering future cycle lanes it will be beneficial for students to have a transport medium that is convenient, free and hazard-safe.

Innovative Service –Bicycles Deployed in Designated Areas Free for Student Use through Centralized School ID Card

Process

Ø  Government constructs a designated bicycle pool area: 10-20 pieces capacity within school belts, along, beside or within train stations, bus stations, etc.

Ø  Bicycles will be color-coded and built with all security features; they will be tagged for proper identification and control like unauthorized possession and use.

Ø  Student upon enrollment registers their school ID card to the centralized system.

Ø  Through the use of the ID card the bicycle can be undocked and docked from and to the pool or docking area for travel use.
Ø  The centralized monitoring system monitors the bicycle: the last owner, the last known location, the period of use, etc.

Benefits

The innovative service enables decongestion of transport vehicles like busses, jeeps, trains and roads of student population. Student travel time will be reduced. Student can benefit from the government-offered free service.  3
