Sir, good evening.  Here is my 3rd NU6.  Thanks.  - Bong Canlas

DISUL: HERBAL MEDICINE
By: Jose Tiburcio S. Canlas
People, especially the poor, find it difficult to cope with the constantly increasing prices of medicines.  For some who cannot afford, they opt not to buy the needed medicines which result to unattended ailments.  With this reality, the use of herbal and alternative modes of therapy provides a new ray of hope to cut cost on someone's expenses.
My mother who is an advocate of herbal medicines has a plant that is called locally as "disul".  The plant is easy to grow and needs minimal maintenance.  For the past years I have witnessed how it healed some common ailments like:
1. Foreign bodies on fingers ( splinters ) that are not easily extracted by needles.
2. Folliculitis ( pimples ) and boils ("pigsa" ) where the inflammatory process is hastened that leads to the rupture of the formed abscess.   The opened wound then would have faster healing process.
3. Open infected wounds also benefit from this herbal plant where the abscess formation is minimised if not eliminated fast.3
4. Punctured wounds from nails and pointed objects also benefit from the plant by shortening the inflammatory process.
The procedure in using the "disul" plant is by pounding the leaf and applying the leaf with its extract as a poultice and wrapped to the affected area.
Special thanks to Dr. Edu Tuazon for helping me out in the use of medical terms for this article.
