Manufactured blood soon a reality?

Repost from bio News | June 3, 2013

Using blood donations in surgery or anemia could be sometimes dangerous.  They may contain viruses that are deadly, and they are of different ages causing the transfusion to be sometimes useless. The blood donation/transfusion is useful for patients with thessalimia  -  body does not synthesize its own blood.

At Scottish Center for Regenerative Medicine  in Scotland scientists led by by Professor Marc Turner are close synthesizing blood from stem cells.

There is a problem though with scaling up of production.

What do you think of this technology?
